In this post we want to show you how to edit our pixelmator templates.
Step 1 – Buy, Download, and Extract
Either purchase one of our premium templates from our Store or get one of our freebies. Download them to your desktop, and extract them. Within each ZIP file you should find a PXM and a PNG file of the design you have purchased.
Step 2 – Use PNG or Customise with Pixelmator
In some cases you can use the PNG template directly. If you want to customise the templates, then open up the PXM file using Pixelmator. If you don’t have the app, go get it from the Apple Mac App Store. Once you open the file, it should look like the below.
You will see multiple layers in your layers window. In the above example, the layers are called Text, Text Bevel, and Diagonal Noise.
Step 3 – Edit as you like
In this template, we need to edit the text. In order to do so, select the two text layers (hold mans health down shift and right click on each layer). Select the text tool in the tools menu. This will select the text boxes, and give you an editing menu at the top of your main editing window.
If you want to change the text, just double click on the selected text and edit. If you want to change the font size, colour etc, use the menu at the top of the window.
Step 4 – Save and Export
Save the file after you have finished editing. Use the export function (File -> Export) to change it into a PNG. Here is one we made earlier as a Pintrest-like icon. We changed the font, increased its size, used only a single character, and added a simple highlight effect.
Step 5 – Convert to IOS device sizes (Optional)
Use MakeAppIcon to convert your exported PNG image to the various sizes you need for your IOS apps. We converted the Pintrest-like icon above using MakeAppIcon to provide the following images in a ZIP file.
