Ninja Share:

Ever wondered how to create those gorgeous product shots to showcase your iPhone apps. In this tutorial we’ll show you just how to give your app that amazeballs effect using Pixelmator and create something cool in 5 minutes.

Step 1 – Grab some screen shots of your app

Grab a screenshot of your app or whatever you want to showcase. Here is a simple weather app screenshot we created using Pixelmator.

Step 2 – Download a mockup template

The real magic is in the mockup template that you use. There are a good few out there, but here are a few on our store optimised for Pixelmator.

Step 3 – Replace the placeholder in the mockup with your screenshot

Replace the placeholder layer in the mockup – in our templates this is called “Add Image Here” or “Edit Me”.

Find this layer, paste in your screenshot, adjust the size of your screenshot (as required) to fit the mockup dimensions.

Step 4 – Export your gorgeous new product shot

That’s it, now all you have to do is export your screenshot and optimise for web. Here is the final product shot for our weather app using our iPhone 5s flattie mockup template:

And here it is using our gorgeous photorealistic template (we played around with the shape of the reflection):

Step 5 – Now its your turn

That’s all it takes, and you finally have an amazing screenshot, created using Pixelmator, which you can start marketing and show off to friends, reviewers, or testers to get them excited about your app. Now go create your own, and let us know how you get on.
